New Look Website

Please bear with us while we update the look of the ScotlandNeedsTheGospel website. We have decided to focus the content of the site around the blog postings – which we will again endeavour to make more regular! Further pages and content will be added in coming days but in the meantime, we hope you like our new look.

Why not make a point of joining them? There will also be a Kids Bible Club each night Monday to Thursday from 31 March to 10 April each night at 6.15pm at the same venue.

From a Distance

A number of news outlets have recently published a photograph of New York taken by the American astronaut Frank Culbertson from the International Space Station on September 11 2001. This shocking image has reawakened for many of us a sense of the horror and impotence that we felt when we first heard of these attacks. There is something especially powerful though about an image from space. In her 1987 album ‘Lone Star State of Mind’, the Read more…

How Much Is a Life Worth?

The horrendous news from Boston over the past week has reignited another round of national soul searching in America. Commentators are falling over one another to express a view on why two apparently normal young men should wish to wreak such havoc on innocent Americans. It is a valid question. What would motivate an individual to place such a high value on their cause or grievance that it justified in their mind the random killing Read more…

Open Air Meetings, Wick

The sudden arrival of spring encouraged the Christians who meet at Bethany Gospel Hall in Wick to take the gospel message to the streets. Starting today they are intending to hold a series of open air meetings at the Market Square in the town. They will also be distributing copies of John’s gospel, holding to the promises in God’s Word that, “The entrance of thy words giveth light” and that “it shall not return unto Read more…

I Don’t Want to Die

If ever we needed an example of the fact that death is the great social leveller, we have had it in the past week. A few years ago one of my brothers was asked to visit a poor old lady in a Fifeshire mining village who was dying. As he approached her bedside the old lady said, “son, I’m feard to dee”. In her West Fife dialect she was expressing exactly the same sentiment as Read more…

Tough Beef

One obvious  fact that has emerged from the horse-meat scandal that has erupted in recent days is the clear limitations of regulation where someone has decided to be deliberately dishonest. Sure, if you up the number of tests done and the likelihood of getting caught increases it is probable that fewer people will want to risk it. But ultimately, if an animal is properly traced all the way to the abattoir and the carcass is Read more…

The Boundaries of Government

And so, the parliament of the United Kingdom has voted in favour of marriage between same-sex couples. That’s that then … Or is it. It is beyond dispute that there are aspects of our lives that are beyond the control of our legislators. If, for example, they voted that never again would anyone in the UK suffer loss of life or property owing to flood damage – a worthy aspiration no doubt – it would Read more…

Comically Inept

There are few attributes more likely to consign you to the social sin bin, in Western society at any rate, than an inability to laugh at a joke made at your expense. Christians, in particular, appear very reluctant to look po-faced regardless of how hurtful or blasphemous a wisecrack has been. Particularly so following the reaction of some Muslim groups to portrayals of the prophet Mohammed. It is with some trepidation therefore that I wish Read more…
