The A-Z

One evening in 1935 the artist Phyllis Pearsall got lost in London and decided that she needed to invent a new kind of map. Personally walking over 3000 miles around the City the eventual result was the London A-Z a concept now copied for major cities all over the world. The idea is simple – every street is indexed by its initial letter from the beginning to the end of the alphabet.

This concept of completeness is one that human beings find very satisfying: Nothing missed out, nothing overlooked. Not something that any one of us could claim to have achieved in our lives! One man, however, stands out. He referred to Himself as the Alpha and the Omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. The apostle John writes “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1 vs 1-3). John was given a vision of future events as well and he records, “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God” (Rev 19 vs 11-13).

Jesus Christ is God’s first and last word to mankind, the complete A-Z of all that God has to say to us. He brought this world into existance and He will ultimately wind it all up. Wouldn’t it be a good idea to get to know Him?
